Associate Director of HLA Laboratory
The Department of Pathology & Immunology and the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine (LGM) at Washington University in St. Louis are seeking an Associate Director of Histocompatibility for the HLA laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), supporting adult and pediatric solid organ and bone marrow transplant programs at a large academic medical center.
The BJH HLA Laboratory is accredited by both the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) and the College of American Pathologists (CAP). It is located in a newly constructed facility with a team of dedicated, experienced staff and state-of-the-art instruments for serologic and molecular testing. The laboratory has a high testing volume and supports over 800 transplantations at the medical center annually. The Division of LGM is a dynamic division, home to faculty with diverse clinical and research interests, and has a long record of accomplishment in innovation, research, and scholarship.
Clinical duties will include participation in medical director oversight of all areas of the HLA lab, including test development and validation, quality management, technical supervision, and clinical consultation. The successful applicant will interpret histocompatibility testing results and work closely with transplant clinicians and other clinical providers. Additional responsibilities will include the education of fellows, pathology residents, medical students, and laboratory technologists. The successful applicant will participate in clinical or translational research.
The search committee seeks candidates with an M.D. and/or Ph.D. who is accredited by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) in the solid organ transplant, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, and other clinical testing categories. Additional expertise and board certification in clinical pathology and subspecialties such as transfusion medicine are valuable assets. A successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
