Assistant Director of Infectious Disease Diagnostic Laboratory - Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of molecular test development and next generation sequencing. This individual will serve as an Assistant Director of the Infectious Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (IDDL). The position will be based within the Division of Laboratory Medicine at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D degree. MD applicants must have board certification in Clinical Pathology (AP/CP or CP) or Pediatrics and Infectious Disease; and Board certification/eligibility in Medical Microbiology through the American Board of Pathology or the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). MD applicants must additionally be eligible for a medical license in the state of Pennsylvania. PhD applicants must be board-eligible or certified by the ABMM.

Teaching responsibilities may include participating in the training of Clinical Microbiology and Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellows at CHOP and may include teaching other learners, including residents, medical students, and clinical laboratory scientists.

Clinical responsibilities may include test development and validation with an emphasis on support of outbreak investigations and other outreach testing. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with laboratory oversight including providing consultations regarding microbiology testing.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include development of an independent or collaborative research program in infectious disease diagnostics.
