Physician, Hematology Service, Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites candidates with a strong Hematopathology background and scientific interest to apply for a staff physician position in the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM), NIH Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD.

The Clinical Center’s Hematology Service, of the DLM, provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and consultation services, supports the clinical research programs, and conducts research in the field of Hematology/Hematopathology. Additionally, it is an active participant of the Hematology and Hematopathology fellowship programs at the Clinical Center.

The Hematology Service consists of several sections: Automated Hematology (including blood morphology), Coagulation (including Special Coagulation), Special Hematology, Bone Marrow (including morphology of aspirates and biopsies, immuno-histochemistry and ISH), Flow Cytometry and Molecular Hematology. The Hematology service is currently staffed by 4 hematopathologists, including the Chief of the Service, and 35 technologists, technicians and research professionals.

Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD degree, board certification in Anatomic Pathology or Anatomic/Clinical Pathology, and board certification/eligibility in Hematopathology, as well as, a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. It is expected that the chosen professional participates in our comprehensive diagnostic service, attends multidisciplinary conferences, responds to consultations, contributes to our educational mission and engages in original or collaborative research. The successful candidate should have demonstrated serious scientific interests and scholarly achievements.

Salary will be commensurate with laboratory experience as well as scientific accomplishments.
